- Treatment?
- For many people, exercise and making healthier food choices are helpful, but not enough to get them into the BP Success Zone (less than 140/90 to 120/80 mm Hg or below)#. There are many different blood pressure medications that can help.
- Prevention?

- Lifestyle changes may help control your blood pressure:
- Lose weight if you are overweight. Excess weight adds to strain on the heart. In some cases, weight loss may be the only treatment needed.
- Exercise regularly.
- Eat a healthy diet. Eat less fat and sodium. Salt, MSG, and baking soda all contain sodium. Eat more fruits, vegetables, and fiber.
- Avoid smoking.
- If you have diabetes, keep your blood sugar under control.

- People with blood relatives who have high blood pressure.
- People who are obese
- Men over the age of 55
- Women over the age of 65
